The Hudson Valley Mediators provide workplace mediation for community organizations and small businesses in our region.  Our services are confidential and always tailored to your needs.  If you do not have an in-house conflict resolution program, we can help you address conflict issues within your organization.  We can provide workplace mediation or training in conflict management in the work place.

Research shows that 60-80% of all difficulties in the workplace stem from strained relationships between employees.  The typical manager spends 25-40% of his or her time dealing with workplace conflicts.  That’s one to two days of every work week.  Workplace conflict negatively affects company productivity in a serious way.

Workplaces are naturally stressful environments, and personal conflicts between co-workers can be both a cause and product of this stress.  In today's diverse environment, what is acceptable to one person may be offensive to another. Furthermore, the workplace becomes fertile breeding ground for conflicts because of the dynamics and interdependency of the employee-to-supervisor and employee-to-employee relationships.  The sources of conflict most likely stem from co-workers' different values and priorities, misunderstandings, miscommunication and hidden grievances.  True resolution of such conflict depends less on company rules and policies, and more on co-workers understanding the other person's point of view and how he or she arrived at it.

  • The mediator, as a trained neutral professional, provide a guided process, a safe environment and assisted communication so that your employees and all parties involved in the dispute can identified pertinent issues, and explore root causes of the dispute together as a group.   
  • The mediation process encourages collaboration.  It is non-confrontational and therefore promises to better preserve employees' working relationships and trust among the parties. 
  • Often during these mediation conversations, information and issues crucial to understanding the current dispute come to light.  The resolution of these long-held miscommunications and misperceptions may very well depend on further honest and respectful conversations.
